Lifestyle and Culture in the Netherlands 

Dutch people have the highest proficiency in English out of any non-English official country in the world, somewhere around 9 out of 10 Dutch people can comfortably speak English and 44% of the population is bi-lingual. Dutch people have been named the best non-native English speakers in the world as well.

The Netherlands is one of the happiest and safest countries in the world with strong creative achievements and many high- tech inventions. The country is home to some of the best innovations in modern science and technology.

The country is also nicely located, being only 3 hours to Paris, 5 hours to London and 6 hours to Berlin.

The country is also exciting and has a unique culture and rich history with some of the most welcoming people in the world. Interestingly Dutch people on average are the tallest in the world.

A study has shown that the average Dutchman is 5 feet 10 inches tall and the average Dutch woman is 5 feet 7 inches tall which is ahead of other countries. In the Netherlands, strength and intelligence were ascribed to height in the past, and it is arguably still the same way among some of its people.

The Netherlands is one amazing country when it comes to protecting its culture and most importantly its nature. The country is home to 10 UNESCO zones and the world’s largest flower garden called Keukenhof.

The garden is hailed as the garden of Europe, and every year across its 32 hectares there are easily 7 million flowers planted with over 1 million people visiting the grounds yearly.

The Netherlands is a very liberal society with a lot of love about its people. From their freedom of speech to their universal healthcare, education and general wellbeing for its citizens, the country continues to stand out.

It’s liberalism and open hand nature is very evident even constitutionally, the country is the first country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage and the first country to decriminalize public use of Marijuana.

When it comes to their sports the Netherlands is known greatly for active sports like Speed skating, cycling, and swimming. To date, the country ranks 4th in the world when it comes to cycling and 6th when it comes to swimming. The rank number 1 when it comes to speed skating and feared around the world for their skills in the game.

Dutch people love sandwiches for lunch and they enjoy all variations of the meal. For dinner, a typical meal must include potatoes, meat and plenty of vegetables. Gouda cheese comes from the Netherlands and is a Dutch specialty.

It is also responsible for almost half of the global cheese consumption. It’s creamy and rich texture and flavor has made it one of the most loved cheeses in the world.
