The Netherlands is a very liberal and open change country that is not only beautiful within its people but warm with heart in its culture. One common mistake around the world is the assumption that the Netherlands is ‘Holland’ but this is not entirely true.

Holland is the name of two provinces within the country which are two of the biggest provinces called the North and South Holland.

The Netherlands means ‘lower country’ which refers to the terrain of the country because it is flat and a good chunk of it is in the water. Because the country is flat, it is known all over the world for cycling and walking.

The Netherlands has a land size of 41,543 km sq and about 18.4% of it is actually water body. And only 50% of the Netherlands is only one meter above water levels.

The country is surprisingly quite packed out of many countries in the world with a population density reaching 417.7 people per square kilometer from a 2019 estimate. They currently rank 30th in the world off of their population density.

The country operates a parliamentary constitutional monarchy system of government with a streamlined structure. There are 12 provinces in the Netherlands and they are bordered by Germany, Belgium, and the UK.

The Netherlands is a member state of the European Union and uses the European Euro as its national currency, although the Dollar is also widely used and accepted.

Scholarship options in the Netherlands include;

- World Citizen Talent Undergraduate Scholarship; The Hague University offers undergraduate students entry-level tuition funding. At €5,000 each to upwards of 50 students each, the scholarship covers about 2/3rd of the students' first-year tuition.

- The Holland Scholarship; Students from oıutside the EU can apply for this government-funded scholarship. They usually award €5,000 every year to students applying for a full-time program in any Dutch university.

- Eric-Bleumink Funds at the University of Groningen; this scholarship covers the students' tuition, travel expenses, medical insurance and monthly stipends for students from some under-developed countries. This scholarship is for Graduate students only (Masters or Doctorate).

- ITC Foundation Scholarships in Spatial Engineering; This scholarship is reserved for students who take up Spatial engineering as a course at the University of Twente. Awarded especially for masters students from third-world countries.

- Utrecht Excellence Scholarships: The University of Utrecht offers scholarships to its students who show academic strides in their respective programs. The scholarship covers both tuition fees and/or tuition fees and an €11,000 stipend.

- Sub-Saharan Africa Excellence Scholarship at TU Delft: This scholarship is reserved for students from the Sub-Saharan region of Africa and it covers tuition waivers and living stipends every month. The scholarship is for graduate students and also allows room for career development and advancement through its many workshops and seminars.

Netherlands or Holland Student Visa

Students from EU/EFTA countries do not need a visa to come into the Netherlands and can be in the country for up to 3 months on one visit.

However, study periods longer than three months requires that they should register for temporary residency at the local registration office in their current location within a few days of their arrival.

Citizens of countries like Australia, Canada, Brazil, Hong Kong, Brunei, Georgia, the USA, and a few others do not need a visa to come to the Netherlands.
