We review the explanations of the statistical relationship between spatial price indices and real living standards in Nauru. Then, using data from several seasons in the country, we show that these variables are positively associated, price indices and real living standards may be statistically linked on several grounds. The total cost of living in Nauru for one person with average consumption for one month will be USD 1000, no rent price included.


Unquestionably, everyone who visited Nauru will say that this is a country of thousands of spices, tea varieties, and fruits. Despite low prices, the meals are tantalizing, delicious, and well cooked. You can get a decent mean for USD 12.00.


Though utilities are not too expensive, you should count in all the malfunctions you will experience during the month which will then make you think of your bills as expensive, given the service you’re receiving. Utilities here will cots just about USD 30!!

Health Care

Cost is average for consulting a doctor in a public institution that will cost about USD 50 and for a private doctor can vary between USD 100 to USD 120 depending on the city. There are student medical aids that are accepted by various institutions in Nauru. It is advised to check with your offer letter on what procedures need to be followed on health insurance.


It can be said that transportation is mostly affordable here, especially if you are using public transport and leaving taxis. A monthly pass for public transportation is around USD 25, which is relatively okay but can be expensive for poor people. However, a daily ticket is around USD 0.50 which is reasonable.

Rent per month

A one-bedroom apartment in the center of big cities here will cost about USD 400. At the same time, similar accommodation far from the downtown will be only USD 300 and you can save a little if you don’t need to spend much on transportation.
