There are a few pre-schools in Mozambique, of which most of them are quite costly and a limited number of people can afford. Pre-primary education is offered by crèches and kindergarten schools.

Is pre-school education necessary in Mozambique?

Pre-school education is one of the most important aspects of a child's life. It offers the basis or foundation of their education and gives them a head start in life. Early gaps in cognitive skills and overall development can affect a child’s capacity and motivation to learn upon entering primary school. Although there are a few pre-schools in Mozambique, the government is making strides to ensure that pre-school education is provided. Here are some of the reasons why pre-education is important:

  • It helps reduce equity gaps by providing children with similar opportunities to learn

Star Kids International

This is an international institution with three premises, one in Maputo and two in Matola. It offers education from Early childhood development programs to primary school. The following documents are required for the application for the admission process:

  • An authenticated copy of the child’s birth certificate, or Passport
  • A vaccination card or health certificate

the pre-school enrolls children from 3 to 6 years in a pre-kindergarten class and the kindergarten class. The pre-kinder program seeks to develop the aesthetic growth of a child and encourages curiosity, creativity, continuity, and confidence. It aims to develop conceptual understanding and deals with the physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development of the child. Activities here include singing, dancing, laughing, playing, and exploring the indoors and outdoors environment. It focuses on utilizing the child’s curiosity and improving their social skills and manners.

The Kindergartenlevel or stagefocuses on building the child’s vocabulary and applying the concepts learned in the previous stage. children are taught how to read and write through innovative learning methods.
