Secondary education in morocco encompasses middle school or lower secondary, which is however classified under basic education, and high school. the middle school in Morocco encompasses three years of studies, with more or less the same subjects taught in primary school.

In The third year of middle school, students will sit for a standardized test at the end of the school year and be awarded the Certificat d’Etudes Secondaires. After 9 years of basic education, students will begin upper secondary school. Students are streamed into one of two tracks, namely the general and technical tracks leading to the baccalaureate, or the vocational track leading to professional qualifications. Middle school or lower secondary is generally for students aged 12 to 15, while high school is typically for children aged 15 to 18.

The general secondary track is aimed at training students in areas including the humanities and sciences to prepare them for further studies. they are streamed into one of three broad fields including language arts, experimental sciences, and mathematics.

The technical track prepares students for further studies or the workplace. Studies are organized into six main areas namely:

  • Mechanical engineering- sciences and techniques, mechanical production, casting, and smelting.
  • Electrical engineering- electrotechnology, electronics.
  • Civil engineering- buildings and concepts, plastics, arts, and industrial graphics.
  • Chemical engineering- chemistry

Middle school or lower secondary curriculum- the middle school curriculum is broad and generally offers a variety of subjects including French, Arabic, mathematics, physics, biology, Islamic education, history, and geography, to mention but a few.

High school curriculum- In the third year of middle school, students will choose the high school combinations they prefer. Subject areas may include literary areas, Arabic, French, history, geography, Islamic education, sciences, technology, math, biology, geology, physics, economics, enterprise management, finances, accounting, literature, and chemistry, to mention but a few. Students will choose their combinations of 3 or 4 subjects.
