Mongolia has a number of world class and state of the art universities offering the best of facilities and internationally recognised degree programs. The following is a list of universities found in Mongolia.

National University of Mongolia

The National University of Mongolia is a public university located in Ulaanbaatar. It was Established in 1942 and is the oldest institution of higher learning in Mongolia, and originally named in honour of Khorloogiin Choibalsan as Choibalsan State University.

There are over 20 000 students enrolledin various programs, with 16 200 being Undergraduates, 3625 Postgraduates, 1035 Doctoral students, 406 international students, and 18 are language preparatory students. There are 797 Academic staff of which 290 are on part-time.

The faculties include:

School of Arts and Sciences- Department of Mathematics, Department of Physics, Department of Chemistry, Department of Biology, Department of Geography, Department of Geology and geophysics, Department of Archaeology and Anthropology, Department of Education and Psychology, Department of Journalism and Public Relation, Department of Sociology and Social Works, Department of Political Science, Department of Economics, Department of Philosophy and Religion Studies, Department of History, Department of Mongolian Language and Linguistics, Department of Literature and Art Studies, Department of British and American Studies, Department of European Studies, Departments Asian Studies

Mongolian University of Science and Technology

The Mongolian University of Science and Technology ( MUST) was founded in 1969 as a part of the National University of Mongolia with 5 faculties and 13 departments. It was formerly named the Polytechnical Institute.

The Mongolian University of Science and Technology is one of the leading state universities in the country. Its campuses are located in Ulaanbaatar City, Darkhan, Erdenet, Uvurkhangai, and Sukhbaatar provinces.

As of 2020 it has 1003 Academic staff, 13 864  Undergraduates, 2 300 Postgraduates, and 137 Doctoral students.     

The university is made up of seventeen professional schools, colleges and 3 research institutes and 36 experimental and technology centers offering enrolment opportunities to students. first-year undergraduates, masters and doctoral-level students in engineering, technology, and others are welcome to apply.

Currently about 22000 students including international students are enrolling and enjoying life at the university, and 120 professors and over thousand staff is engaged in student training, educational and research activities, university administration and management.

The main thrust at Mongolian University of Science and Technology is on goal-oriented research and development (R&D) which is relevant to the country’s needs.

The University is setting up links between the University and industry both in the public and private sectors and to facilitate contract research. It has academic links and exchange programs with more than 120 institutions from more than 20 European countries, the Asia and Pacific region, Canada and America.

The institution has set up quite a number of Schools, namely, School of Civil Engineering and Architecture, School of Business Administration and Humanities, School of Geology and Petroleum Engineering, School of Food Engineering and 

Biotechnology, School of Information and Communication Technology, School of Language education, School of Mathematics, School of Materials Science, School of Mechanical Engineering, School of Mining Engineering, School of Power Engineering, School of Social Technology, School of Technology in Darkhan

Mongolian State University of Education

It is a public university located in Ulaanbaatar,and  was established in 1951. The university is officially accredited by Mongolian National Council for Education Accreditation and has 5 schools, 35 departments, 6 research centers, and 35 labs. The university offers both undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The university has 13 500 students and 800 faculty and staff. The university currently has 523 Academic staff, 11 590 Undergraduates, 1 386  Postgraduates, and 169 Doctoral students           

Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences

The Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences in Ulaanbaatar is a public higher education institution established in 1942 and has branch campuses in Darkhan-Uul, Sainshand, and Gobi-Altai. About 150 to 205 students graduate each year.

Its School of Public Health is linked to Loma Linda University, which is sponsoring tobacco-control research in Mongolia.  It is affiliated with the International University of Health and Welfare in Narita.

The university currently has about 1000 Academic staff, 8 505 Undergraduates, 987 Postgraduates, and 53 Doctoral students          

Khovd University

Khovd University (Khu) is state institution of higher learning in Khovd in Mongolia. It was founded in 1979 as the Khovd State Pedagogical Institute and specializes in educational sciences.

In 2004 The University was granted independent status as Khovd University. Currently the University has more  than 2500 students enrolled in 40 undergraduate and graduate programs and has about 200 faculty staff.

The university’s academic structure includes 4 schools, 19 departments, one center. The University encourages exchange programs, internships, guest lectures, joint research projects, and other services. over 200 students and 100 professors and university staff members have participated in these activities.

The university offers 6 Bachelor, and 6 Master programs in Administration, Communication, Computer Science, International Relations, Management.

Ulaanbaatar State University

It is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the large city of Ulaanbaatar. The Ulaanbaatar State University was founded in 1992 and has three levels of education, that is, Bachelor, Master and Doctoral degrees.

The university has 10 departments, namely Department of Mathematics and Software, Department of Chemistry, Department of Biology, Department of Physics and Electronics, Department of Archaeology, Department of History, Department of Humanities, Department of General Education, Department of Eastern Studies, Department of Mongolian Studies and Education and 5 Research Centers.

It is Officially accredited/recognized by the Mongolian National Council for Education Accreditation. Ulaanbaatar State University also provides several academic and non-academic facilities and services including a library, as well as administrative services.
