Moldovan souvenirs often resemble the culture, history, and philosophy of the country. There is a broad range of goods and a variety of gifts to choose from to suit every taste. Here you will find are some of the most unique items to bring home for friends, family, and yourself.

Moldovans are proud of their cognac, and it is the number one item to bring home for someone who enjoys brandy. If the weight of your luggage is an issue, do not worry! There are small bottles here, as well, and they’re much cheaper.

For those who prefer to purchase souvenirs that can be used in daily life, Moldovan jewelry might be the best choice. The traditional jewelry features Moldovan symbols, which makes them the perfect thing to remember your time in the country and to highlight your individuality.

The main shopping spot in Moldova’s capital runs along Stefan cel Mare Boulevard and Mihai Eminescu Street and offers a vast choice of fashion from luminaries such as Hugo Boss, Zara, Klein, Benetton, and other brands.

The new mall is Shopping Mall Dova, set next to the viaduct that connects the city center with Botanica, an eclectic glass-and-concrete temple to consumerism. Western outlets such as Debenhams, Polo, Swarovski, Pepe Jeans, and Lacoste are located here, and the mall stays open as late as 10 at night.

For authentic local craft souvenirs, Chisinau’s Arts Square open-air market in Stefan cel Mare Street is small but well furnished with stalls selling locally-woven and embroidered goods, carvings, textiles, clothes, pottery, cookware, jewelry, leather goods, rugs, carpets, handmade lace, and local musical instruments.

The city’s huge Central Market, set in and around Piata Centrala, first opened in 1825 and is a people-watching glamor. It holds endless stalls selling fresh items, cooked foods, cheeses, wine, brandy, and bread in a hive of constant activity and noisy haggling.

Another good place to get local souvenirs and fashion are Pushkin Street's Trade Center next to Cathedral Park. It's a supermarket-style building with goods on sale between USD 10 and USD 600. Bargains can be found in footwear and purses and much more.

If you do not make it to Europe’s largest wine cellar, the Cricova wine store in Chisinau is at Stefan cel Mare Street and sells a great selection of drinks, while Chisinau’s parks in summer are bursting with displays from talented local artists and craftspeople.

When shopping in the local markets, feel free to bargain. If you want to get an idea of how much you should be paying, visit the state-run craft markets, which have steady rates. Shops here are mostly open from 8:00 a.m. to noon and from 2:00 p.m to even 11:00 p.m on weekdays.

Most are closed at least once a week, usually on Sundays, but you will still find something open every day of the week. Carry your bag and go shop in the Moldovans without any fear or fret, we've got your back covered at RocApply.
