Accommodation In Malawi for students

Find Programs
(Bachelor's, Master's & PhD)

Finding accommodation in a new place can be exhausting. International Students can apply for on-campus accommodation at an added cost on fees paid which is far more affordable than private accommodation. However, on-campus accommodation is sometimes inadequate for the huge number of students enrolling every year.

The University of Malawi has two systems of accommodation for students. Due to the inadequacy of hostels provided by the institution, students who have not been given bed space on campus seek accommodation in private hostels around which are slightly more costly.

There are five on-campus hostels at the University of Malawi, namely Nyika A and B, Mpingwe, and Ndirande for male students. For the Female students, there is Hylid, Kapeni A, and B and Ndirande hostel. Other hostels are at Chichiri and the Poly Alley which accommodates both male and female first-year students.

There are private hostels that students can use and the procedure of getting accommodation in these hostels is controlled by the owners of the premises. These include; amount to be paid as rent and other conditions put in place by the owners and landlords.

Rent for a single apartment inside the city centre costs about MK 345,000.85 while it costs about MK 243,308.70 outside the city centre.
