Shopping in Kazakhstan

Find Programs
(Bachelor's, Master's & PhD)

French writer Victor Hugo once wrote of shopping that, "As the purse is emptied, the heart is filled.” And if you are one who relates to that statement and loves a good day of shopping, Kazakhstan is the best destination for you.

In Kazakhstan, shopping goes beyond just stores with the latest fashions and electronics. It’s a lifestyle. The first place you will want to check for that experience is the Khan Shatyr, opened with great fanfare in 2010.

This three-story complex is billed as the world’s largest tent and caters everything from a wave pool to sauna to an amusement ride that drops you three stories from the apex of the complex. And, of course, you can shop at dozens of stores on three sections that offer the hottest brands.

Shopping here is mostly concentrated in two capitals, the former capital city of Almaty and the current capital of Nur-Sultan. Of course, there are shops in all the other cities, but there are not many of them compared to these two.

If you check local shopping centers, you will surely find such popular labels as New Yorker, Bershka, Mango, Nike, and Zara. Rates in local shops are not very high for mass-market brands. Foreigners wishing to buy something authentic and ethnic will hardly find something suitable in these malls.

It is best to visit souvenir shops for this reason. Local souvenir shops usually provide elements of the national outfits, tubeteika, felt slippers, and more. The same products will be a bit cheaper in local markets.

Bazaars are also a great place to shop for natural dairy items and baked products. Mega Silk Way is another of Nur-Sultan’s big shopping experiences. Mega is located near the EXPO spot and is a great place for both kids and discerning adult shoppers.

Adults will find lots of shops on two levels offering international name labels from familiar outlets.

Come and discover why Kazakhs are so stylish and modern. See how everything you need is available either in one of the state-of-the-art shopping centers or in one of the cultural bazaars.

Shopping in the country is comfortable and convenient, offering everything you need in a range of city locations.

From modern shopping centers to traditional and busy souks, in Almaty and Astana, you are rarely more than a few meters from a quality shop of some type, and never more than a short drive from somewhere which sells the best of anything money can purchase.

An organized tour with ample downtime makes for a fuss-free path to move between major cities in this far-flung destination.

In addition to shopping-centric destinations, stops on a well-rounded tour might include the capital peripherals and perhaps even a short stay in a traditional yurt camp in the countryside. In short, now’s the time to visit. Start your application today!! All for FREE!
