Al-Salt is an old agricultural urban and an administrative centre in west-central of Jordan. It is located along the highway from Amman to Jerusalem. Having it basement in the Balqa highland, nearly 790–1,100 metres above sea level, the city is built in the crook of three hills, near the Jordan valley. Jabal al-Qal'a,One of the three hills, is the site of a 13th-century ruined fortress and today appointed as the capital of the Balqa Governorate.
