Italy Visa Requirements
Students from EU/EFTA countries do not need a visa to come into Italy and can be in the country for up to 3 months on one visit. However, study periods longer than three months requires that they should register for temporary residency at the local registration office (Anagrafe) in their current location within a few days of their arrival.
Students from other nationals do need a visa to enter Italy. A student visa needs to be issued to the student at the Italian embassy or consular in their home country.
After entering the country, foreign students must apply for a residence permit within a few days of their entry. Students must ask their universities for the local registration or post office in their location as this is where they can apply.
Documents required for an Italian student visa includes;
- Travel passport (valid for up to 6 months after visa issuance)
- Acceptance letter from a recognized Italian institution
- Proof of financial suitability ( by a bank statement showing funds to cover tuition and monthly costs of at least €500 and yearly costs of at least €5,500 ).
- Proof of English or Italian language knowledge based on the language of instruction of their respective courses.
- Students below 18 must provide a letter of consent by their parents or wards. This letter must be notarized as well.
- Health and Travel insurance documents
- Proof of housing arrangements (RocApply in collaboration with the University can help with this requirement subsequently).
- Properly filled visa application form
Lastly, students must provide a copy of their passport details and visa information with their acceptance letter and health insurance for their resident permit application. This must be done within eight days of their entry into Italy.
Health insurance can be purchased from their home countries before the student arrives or can be obtained while they are in Italy
