St. Patrick's, Maynooth opened as an educational institution as a national seminary in 1795 and became the Pontifical University in 1896. Kildare is a county in the Irish county of Leinster in the Midlands. It is named after the town of Kildare. County Kildare is partly in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Dublin, but mainly in the Diocese of Kildare and Lilling. It is found in the Diocese of Meath and Kildare in the Church of Ireland. County Kildare is 67.6 kilometers long and 41.9 kilometers wide, with a total area of 169.550 hectares. It borders the counties of Carlow, Lowes, Meath, Offaly, Dublin, and Wicklow. As a landlocked country, Kildare is generally flat, and its highest points are the foothills of the Wicklow Mountains, the hills north of Kildare city, and the hills west of Kilcock.
