Ireland Visa Requirements

Ireland Visa Requirements

It is important to check the necessary immigration and visa regulations that are specific to your home country. Be sure that you have fulfilled the requirements for visa approval and then apply for a visa at the nearest Irish Embassy or Consulate in your home country.
For citizens from EU/EEA countries;

Citizens of EU/EEA member states do not require a visa to be in Ireland for up to 3 months a stretch, and they can study in the country for a period, not more than 3 months. However, study duration upwards of 12 months means that they must apply for a student visa (Type D Visa) before they arrive in the country or they must register with the Gardai (Irish Police Service) within a few days of their arrival and subsequently apply for a residence permit.

For citizens from Non-EU/EEA countries;

Citizens from other countries around the world will require a student visa (Type D visa) to study in Ireland for a duration longer than 12 months. The Type D visa is completed online and the entire visa documentation is submitted at the nearest Irish Embassy or Consular in the applicant’s home country.

The following are the documents that are needed for a student visa to study in Ireland;

  • Signed AVATS online visa application form
  • Two passport-sized photographs (height: 45-50mm, width: 35-38mm)
  • International passport (new and old if applicable)
  • The application letter (Statement of Purpose)
  • University/College acceptance letter
  • Receipt of payment of fees
  • Employment status or any evidence of a gap in your education
  • Proof of English language proficiency (IELTS, TOEFL, CBE)
  • Proof of funds (bank statements, loan statements, scholarship documents, etc)
  • Medical Insurance (at least for one year).
