Embassies and Consulates in for obtaining a Visa
Students with a Non-EU status must apply for a residence permit at the nearest Consulate of Hungary, no other embassy or consulate would suffice.
The application form and list of requirements is available on the website of the immigration office and our website.
The permit application can take several weeks and the consulate requires different documentation, please contact us for the exact documents as we will only highlight the important aspects of the visa application process.
Visa Process
After receiving your tuition fee payment, the university through RocApply will send the visa support certificate via courier and upon receiving this document the student is expected to book a visa interview date and present this certificate to the consul amongst other documents when you have the visa interview.
The visa support certificate proves three things,
- The student’s status and tuition fee payment information
- English language proficiency
- Accommodation information and payment information
Asides this certificate, the student must provide proof of financial capabilities (through bank statements, loan certificates, scholarship or funding documents, etc) that can cover the cost of their living in Hungary for a full year.
We estimate that around €6,000 should be enough as having the correct financial document is a key point of the whole visa application. Individuals who do not earn a living can use the documents of their parents as sponsors, however, only parents or legal guardians can be sponsors and no other relative.
Students must present their birth certificate to prove that they are related and the parent must sign an official sponsorship document.
Visa Interview
The visa interview is usually conducted in English and the student must have some basic knowledge of Hungary, the university they have chosen and the program they will start.
Please demonstrate that you a serious student who hopes to get an international degree in Hungary as that is what the consul is looking for.
Students would be notified by the Hungarian Consulate when the decision has been made about their residence permit application.
Please note that successful applicants will receive a short term visa (Type D) to Hungary which is valid only for one-time entry and the student must obtain their residence permit from the office of Immigration and Nationality in Budapest within 30 days of arrival into the country.
