There are two major airports in Guatemala. The rest are regional and city airpots. Below are the airports fond in Guatemala. The largest is the La Aurora International Airport in Guatemala City and the other international airport is the Mundo Maya International Airport located outside the towns of Santa Elena and Flores.
Mundo Maya International Airport
It is an international airport located in the suburb of Santa Elena, in the city of Flores, formerly knwn as Flores International Airport. It is a public and military airport that serves national and international air traffic for towns including Flores, Santa Elena, and San Benito, Guatemala City, Belize, as well as all the Maya sites like Tikal or Yaxha. Mundo Maya Airport went through expansion to provide a better service to passengers and accommodate a greater number of flights and larger aircraft.
It serves airlines such as Maya Island Air, Transportes Aereos Guatemaltecos, and Tropic Air. Mundo Maya International airport is the country's second largest and is one of the busiest airports in Central America. In 2018 alone the Airport reported 144 772 passengers, showing a 5.4% yearly increase
La Aurora International Airport
It is an airport located in and serving Guatemala City. It is located 6.4 km south of Guatemala City's center and 25 km from Antigua Guatemala. It is both a public and military airport administered by the Direccion General de Aeronautica Civil. La Aurora International Airport is the largest airport of Guatemala.
The airport went through modernization and expansion process and is now able to accept a greater number of flights and larger aircraft. It now provides high standard installations for travelers. It was expanded with a new glass designed concourse and can now accommodate up to twenty-two aircraft
In 2007 seven new gates were opened which are equipped with jetway bridges and modern conveniences, and a new parking garage which can handle up to 500 vehicles was also built. The airport currently has two terminals namely the Central and North terminals
The Airport is the fourth busiest airport in Central America in terms of passenger traffic after Tocumen International Airport in Panama, Juan Santamaria International Airport in Costa Rica, and Monsenor Oscar Arnulfo Romero International Airport in El Salvado.
The Airport has 2 Exclusive VIP Lounges namely the Los Anejos Business Lounge, and the Copa Club for passengers travelling on Copa Airlines and United Airlines. The airport serves a number of local and international airlines, both passenger airlines and cargo airlines.
As of 2019 the airport served about 3 034 546 passengers. It is the hub for Avianca Guatemala, Transportes, and Aereos Guatemaltecos.
Huehuetenango Airport- is an airport serving the city of Huehuetenango, the capital of Huehuetenango Department in Guatemala. The airport is in the southwest of the city. It is served by Aereo Ruta Maya and Transportes Aereos Guatemaltecos
