The Harokopio University of Athens is a public university dedicated to promoting research and learning in a focused, small field of knowledge. Located in the heart of Athens, near the heart of the Acropolis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the university was originally an educational institution, founded in 1929 and received university status in 1990. It is named after its state patron, Panagis. Harrokopos. The university's excellent campus facilities include four departments, a central administration, a library, an IT centre and student advising services. Harokopio University in Athens is close to many important cultural sites such as the Acropolis Museum, Thissio, the Panathenaic Stadium (Kallimaron), Keramikos and the Benaki Museum.
