Greece Student Visa Requirements

A student visa is an authorization to stay in a country and study or for study reasons. Foreign students from countries outside the EU require a visa to come to Greece for study purposes.

The old fashioned way to apply for a student visa is through an embassy or consular in the student’s home country. However, in recent times prospective students can apply for a student visa from within Greece.

Students that do not need a visa to enter Greece and can enter legally, can apply whilst already in the country. This must be done during the first 60 days of their stay.

Students from countries that need a visa to come to Greece must apply from the embassy or consular in their country of origin or residence.

Candidates who want to apply for a student visa must consider the following;

  • Must not be an EU citizen
  • Must not have been denied entry to Greece in the last year
  • Must have enough financial means or support for their education in Greece
  • Must have medical coverage or insurance
  • Must have been accepted into a recognized higher institution in Greece for a full-time study program.

Some of these requirements may vary depending on the country and the student.

A Student Schengen Visa is not a student residence permit. Students who have been granted a visa must apply for a residence permit within 2 weeks of their entry into the country.

The office of international student services or Registration office in their respective instıtutions can gladly assist with all the necessary information.

    International Hellenic University

    University Of Patras

    The University of Patras was founded in the city of Patras in 1964 and it began functioning in the Academic year of 1966-67, this contributed vastly to the decentralization of Academic Education in Greece. In June 2013 the University of West Greece was incorporated into the University of Patras. In 2019, the majority of the departments of the Technological Educational Institute of Western Greece were also integrated into the University of Patras.

    University of Piraeus

    The University of Piraeus was founded as a "School of Industrial Studies" in 1938 by the Association of Industrialists and Craftsmen, in accordance with the Law N.5197/1931 and the A.N. 28/1936, in association with the Federation of Public Limited Companies Greece intending to provide economic, legal and technical education to industrial executives.

    University of Crete

    University of Ioannina

    The University of Ioannina is a university in Ioannina, Greece, located 5 kilometers southwest of the city. The institution began as a charter of Thessaloniki's Aristotle University in 1964 and became an autonomous university in 1970.

    Athens University of Economics and Business

    Athens University of Economics and Business was founded in 1920 in Athens, Greece, and is the country's oldest university in the discipline of economics. Prior to 1989, the university was known in Greek as the Supreme School of Economics and Business.

    University of the Aegean

    The University of the Aegean is a public, multi-campus university in Lesvos, Chios, Samos, Rhodes, Syros, and Lemnos, Greece. It was established on March 20, 1984, by Presidential Act 83/1984, and its administrative offices are in the town of Mytilene on the island of Lesvos.

    University of Thessaly

    The University of Thessaly, founded in 1984, is a non-profit public higher education institution with campuses in all four cities of the Thessaly area (Volos, Larissa, Trikala, and Karditsa) as well as Lamia (Sterea Ellada region). The University of Thessaly (UTH), which is legally approved and recognized by the Greek Ministry of Education, is a vibrant higher education institution that provides courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees in a variety of fields of study.

    University of Macedonia

    The University of Macedonia of Economic and Social Sciences, founded by Government Decree No. 147 on April 10, 1990, has a long history as an institution. It was founded in 1948 under the name "The Graduate School of Industrial Studies of Thessaloniki," but it did not begin operations until the academic year 1957-58. Thessaloniki is a Greek port city on the Aegean Sea's Thermaic Gulf. Evidence of Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman history may still be found, particularly in Ano Poli, the upper town. The Rotunda, which has served as both a church and a mosque, is among the remnants of Roman Emperor Galerius' 4th-century palace. The Great Fire of 1917 devastated much of the city core. The reconstructed twentieth-century city has a contemporary European layout.
