Secondary education in Ghana consists of a junior phase and a senior phase, which both last for 3 years. The junior secondary phase concludes the compulsory School phase in ghana. Students usually finish junior secondary at the age of 15.

During senior secondary education, pupils are taught English, mathematics, social studies, and integrated science. In addition to these subjects, they can choose from several electives. These electives are followed in the specializations of agriculture, business, technology, and trade, as well as general education (arts or sciences).

Junior Secondary school

In junior secondary school, students learn subjects including English, mathematics, social studies, and integrated science in addition to basic design and technology, religious and moral education, French, and Information and Communication Technology. At the end of junior school students sit for examinations to obtain the Basic Education Certificate. A school year in the junior secondary phase lasts 45 weeks.

Senior Secondary school- In public national schools students take core subjects that include English Language, Integrated Science, Mathematics, and Social Studies.  They must also take three to four Elective subjects, from any one of seven groups that include Sciences, Arts (social sciences and humanities), Vocational (visual arts or home economics), Technical, Business, and Agriculture. In conclusion of Senior secondary education, students sit for the West African Senior School Certificate examinations whereupon they will be awarded the West African Examinations Council, Ghana National Office. In these examinations, students take exams in four compulsory subjects, namely English, mathematics, social studies, and integrated science and In addition, they must sit examinations in three to four electives. students usually complete senior secondary school at the age of 18 years. A senior secondary school year lasts 40 weeks.

High School- the high school program follows the Carnegie Unit (credit) system leading to an American High School diploma. This level prepares students for life and education at university. The high school focuses on meeting the students’ behavioral, academic, social, and spiritual needs. Most courses offered here are at the honors and advanced placement levels. Students will also have to be involved in community service and take short-term internships to help others and expand their view of the world. The school also offers SAT preparatory classes and preliminary tests for High School students from the 8th to the 12th grades.

co-curricular activities- In addition to academics, AIS offers many choices in sports; soccer, basketball, and volleyball.
