The estimated monthly cost of living in Noumea for a family of four is $4 922 or CPF 484 218F without taking rent into account. A single person’s estimated monthly costs are $1 367 or CPF 134 521F without taking rent into account.

Accommodation

One bedroomed Apartment in City Centre in New Caledonia costs about CPF 108 333.33, and a one bedroomed Apartment Outside of the city center costs CPF 82 500.00. These come fully furnished with beds, couch, television, TV stand, tables and chairs, wardrobe, and washing machine.

Transport

The prices for local transportation or rental are as follows: One Litre of gasoline costs CPF 137.96, a One-way ticket for local transport costs about CPF 190.00 while a Regular monthly pass costs about CPF 8 085.00. Some other transport options include:

Buses- there are two main bus networks in New Caledonia, namely Taneo and RAI. Taneo is the main urban bus network for Grand Noumea while RAI is an inter-urban coach network. A single ticket on the Taneo lines costs about 300Francs. A pass however costs about 900 Francs and gives you unlimited travel for the day. It is, therefore, less expensive to use a pass than get a ticket. The RAI fleet has 40 premium tourist coaches and 25 lines. These coaches have air conditioning, video, are safe, and have alcohol lock devices. These are quite affordable. The Karuia is the local bus service that serves Noumea city. It has 18 lines of red and white colored buses which operate from as early as 6 am till 7 pm. Tickets can be bought for 190 Francs at the office but cost 210 francs when purchased on the bus.

Taxis- taxis are operated by Radio Taxis. These can be found at the taxi rank located on Rue Anatole France and also near the aquarium in Anse Vata, to mention but a few.

Taxi Boats- taxi boats are also available for transportation in New Caledonia. The Coconut taxi boat is a line that can take you across any of the 14 islands, with drop-off and pickup available. Betico is also another boat line that serves Noumea, offering day trips from 7 am.

Car rentals- car rentals are also available in New Caledonia. Point Rouge rental costs about 3300 Franc per day for small cars and from 5500 francs per day for 4 wheel drive vehicles. AB Location de Voitures offers smart Peugeot vehicles for about 4100 francs per day.

Basic Utility prices in New Caledonia are as follows: Basic utilities (Water, heating, garbage, and electricity) costs 22 915.06 francs, Cable/DSL internet connection (unlimited data and speed of 60Mbps) costs 7 656.00 Franc, and Local one-minute prepaid calls cost 44.31 Franc.
