Getting involved in clubs and societies is a great way to meet other students from your country and from around the world. There are many societies run by universities for different interests, religions, sports and academic groups.

Optional trips amongst other events can enhance your experience as an exchange student and provide additional opportunities for you to experience the variety of cultures and regions that make up this tropical country.

Congolese institutions offer long trips every year, but this may vary depending on the number of students per program. These optional trips are offered for an additional fee and destinations vary by year.

One thing to remember in the DRC is always to expect the unexpected. There are many mountain ranges, waterfalls, lakes, rivers, and forests, and each offers unique sights and sounds. The capital, Kinshasa, is quite popular with cyclists, while climbers enjoy challenging volcanoes and peaks.

Whatever you chioose to do while enjoying your vacation be sure to check the following:

  • Those who wish to discover the wildlife may go trekking or hiking while on a safari holiday. Active travelers who are up for a challenge can go canoeing down the 3,000-mile, crocodile-filled waters of the Congo River.
  • The number of forests in the DRC makes it a wonderland for hiking and trekking. Okapi Tours and Travel Company in Goma organize tours for groups, as well as individuals who want to explore the country through its nature trails. Be sure to keep in touch once you are here.
  • Head to Upemba National Park if you like to discover wildlife on foot or head to Virunga National Park, which is distinctive for its jagged mountain ranges and varied game, including hippopotamuses, antelopes, warthogs, and lions.
  • Kinshasa, the capital is home to Le Beach Ngobila, one of the best beaches in the Congo. Inongo in the Bandundu region and Caribu in Goma are also notable. Renting a pirogue is one method to experience the Congo River by boat, starting from the Kinkole Fish Market and working your way down.
  • Enjoy the DRC’s areas of watery beauty from the pretty and laidback town of Kalemie on the banks of the immense Lake Tanganyika. The town has a functioning airport to connect with the wider region and Tanzania across the border. There is also some fascinating, crumbling colonial architecture, colourful markets and pleasant accommodations with great lake views.

In most cases, programs that for international students to study in DRC would have a number of travel components that would be buttressed to their program, this enables students to see round famous destinations and tourist resorts.

Students also have access to social activities like sports as well as other extracurricular activities they can engage in both on and off-campus. While you are studying here you may get the chance to stay with local families, learn the French language, and enhance your French as you become immersed in francophone Africa.

One thing’s for sure, there are plenty of things to do. Apply on RocApply today and you will be set!
