About Zagreb

Zagreb is one of the oldest cities in Europe. It is not only an administrative region of Croatia but also the economic, diplomatic and cultural capital of Croatia with a population of nearly one million. It is also a university center with 40 higher education institutions and more than 80,000 students.

A city proud of its long history of education: the first city school (primary school) was established in the middle of the 14th century, and the first secondary school was established in the early 16th century and the second half of the 16th century. Zagreb’s Century was the first university. Zagreb is a city of science and culture.

The city has about fifty museums and art galleries, as well as private art collections, and about twenty theaters and concert venues.

From spring to autumn, many open-air events and exhibitions are organized. As you stroll through the streets of Zagreb, you can admire the buildings mainly dating back to the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Although Zagreb is a city in Central Europe, it still has a Mediterranean lifestyle in many ways. A great atmosphere and friendly locals are the main values of Zagreb. In summer, Zagreb becomes a multicultural center with many entertainment options!

From picnics, sporting events, rooftop parties, outdoor cinemas and festivals, and other outdoor activities, to interesting museums, traditional and international restaurants, cozy cafes, and large gatherings.

During the Christmas season, Zagreb offers a variety of activities that can satisfy even the most demanding tourists. The streets of the Croatian capital are full of entertainment, food, unique events, art, and a real Christmas atmosphere.
