Croatia, a jewel on the Adriatic Sea, a rich culture laden with amazing landscapes and the breathtaking beauty of the Croatian coastline, these are some of the reasons why this Balkan country has been one of the most popular vacation spots in Europe ever since the communist Yugoslavian era.

The country is a fascinating land nestled between mountains and the sea with more than one thousand islands in its shores.

Croatia is a very lively country with equally vibrant people, music is a very crucial part of their lifestyle in a big way and it is not surprising when strangers meet for the first time and make a connection.

The country is ridden with ancient palaces and medieval fortresses that have some of the best architectural mark-ups in history. This is a place of unparalleled natural beauty and one of the most unique climate on the European continent.

Cities like Split and Zadar are very popular tourist destinations and house a good number of World UNESCO Heritage Sites in the country.

One interesting theory is that the necktie was invented by Croatian soldiers who served in the French army in the 17th century.

Croatia has some beautiful national costumes that are peculiar to them, today, the only national costume that sits above the knee belongs to the women of Susak Island.

Different parts of the Croatian identşty has been influenced by the nation’s tumultuous history, having to be part of the Ottoman Empire, and consequently the Austria-Hungarian Empire, before joining the Kingdom of Yugoslavia and subsequently welcoming in socialist Yugoslavia.

Today, Croatia is an independent democratic country where peace and progress go hand in hand.

Croatian traditional food is very regional and tasty, some popular dishes loved all around the county include; Grah which is a delicious smokey bean stew, Rebrica which is a well-smoked dish of pork ribs and Lešo Junetina which boiled beef and mashed potatoes with a side of horseradish and cabbage salad.

A very popular street food which is also a must-try is Burek which is a dish made of pastry and eaten with cheese or with meat. Other delicious traditional meals include Zagrebački Odrezak and shepherd's stew Čobanac popular across Croatia.

One of the oldest towns in all of Europe is located within Croatia and it is the town of Vinkovci which inhabitants can be traced back to approximately 8,000 years ago.

The city is also historically known to be the best place of two Roman Emperors. Additionally, the city of Dubrek in Croatia is argued and praised by the citizens as the center of the earth, mainly because the city lies at the center of the world map when placed flat.

Another very famous current piece of architecture from the country is the Zadar Organ, which is not only ingenious but very beautiful to see.

The Zadar Sea Organ is known as the first real pipe instrument that is played by the sea. Located in Zadar, which is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the country to date.
