The history of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) can be traced back to Beijing College of Geology which was founded in 1952. It became one of the national key universities in 1960. In 1970, the main part of this college was moved to Hubei Province and renamed Hubei College of Geology. In 1975, the college was relocated in Wuhan, the capital city of Hubei Province, and renamed Wuhan College of Geology. In 1987, with the approval of the State Education Commission, China University of Geosciences (CUG) was founded in Wuhan and Beijing at the same time, with the headquarters in Wuhan. In 1997, CUG entered the national “211 Project” of leading universities. In 2000, the administration of CUG was transferred from the Ministry of Land and Resources to the Ministry of Education. CUG is one of the first universities to enter the national “Double-first-class Program” which aims to build first-class universities and first-class disciplines in the world.
CUG (Wuhan) is the research and education center of Geosciences Resources and Environmental Studies in China. It is renowned for the study of geosciences with two national key disciplines: geological resources and geological engineering, and geology. At present,CUG (Wuhan) has developed into a comprehensive university offering multiple disciplines with geology, geological resources,environmental studies and geological engineering technology as the main features and the coordinate developments of sciences,engineering,liberal arts,management, economics,law and education.

On the other hand, off-campus accommodation (within range of the university) with similar features is available, with prices depending on the specific need of the student. Costs also include water and electricity bills. There is also a chance to rent accommodation from a private landlord or estate agent.
Prices fluctuate greatly depending on the location and quality of the apartment, however, the price of housing here averages around 200 to 350 EUR per month
That said, students are often encouraged to stay on campus for at least a year as they find their way around and are hence able to find help from university staff at any time.
CUG also values and appreciates the need for extramural activities allowing students to chill, wind-down, interact socially, and network. The University intends through sport to create an open environment to encourage students to actively engage in sport and social clubs so as to promote the development of leadership and skills training.
Upon arrival, new students are informed on several sports and clubs that CUG has, and are encouraged to take part. Some of the sports the university offers include Athletics; Basketball; Tennis; Volleyball; Climbing etc.
Through sporting activities students are able to: Improved teamwork; Confidence boost; Better Time management; improved interaction; have fun; meet new people; destress and relax etc.
Speak of rice eaten with beef or fish curry, with warm smoked rice, accompanied by vegetables such as cabbage, speak of China. The university offers dishes of similar nature with reservations for international dishes cooked by professionals.
The food is quite delicious and looks appetizing. The chefs that operate on campus are skilled and trained to cook quality food with high standards of hygienic operations and service provision.
For students who reside off campus, they pay up to 10 euros for a considerably satisfying meal on campus while those who stay on-campus do only need to pay once for food service alongside with the tuition fees.
Wuhan’s public transportation offers convenient and diversified ways to travel around the city, including metros, public buses, taxis, ferries and public bicycles. All newly-registered international students of CUG will get a student transportation card with 100 yuan balance.
There are 9 metro lines in Wuhan by the end of February, 2019, covering 216 metro stations and stretching out over 319 kilometers.The pricing policy, based on travel length and time, is as follows:

40-50 km: 1 yuan / 10 km
