Chadian social life reflects a rich, and diverse culture with African, Arabic, and French influences. Several Ethnic groups follow different religions and customs. Sport and music play an integral part in uniting the country.

Religion

Chad is a tolerant country concerning religion. There are several religious groups. About 52.1% of the population are Muslims, 23.9% are Protestants, and 20% are Catholics, 0.3 traditional beliefs, 2.8% non-religious.

Food and cuisine

Food in Chad is based on ingredients including rice, millet, sorghum, vegetables,  okra, cassava, mutton, chicken, pork, goat meat, fish, lamb, and beef, to mention but a few.

Esh- is a dish made with boiled millet flour, and served with moulah source.

Daraba- is a traditional dish made using okra, tomatoes, greens, sweet potatoes, and peanut butter.

Dried, salted, and smoked fish are also very common.

Jarret de boeuf- is a traditional Chadian stew made from beef and vegetables.

Kisser- is a type of sourdough

La Bouillie- is a traditional Chadian breakfast made from rice, wheat, milk, peanut butter, and flour.

Aiiyash- these are millet pancakes and fried balls. The millet balls are dipped in various sauces.

Porridge- these are usually made from millet meal and sorghum, a very common breakfast.

Sauces- sauces play a major part in Chadian dishes and meals and are used to dip various foods and bread. Sauces are made from beef, tomatoes, fish, and onions.

Music

Traditional Chadian instruments include the Hu-Hu, which is a stringed instrument with a calabash, a tin horn called Kakaki, Maracas, Lute, Kinde, Balafon, Harps, whistle, and drums. Music in chad is similar to Soukous music from the Democratic Republic of Congo, then there is Sai, which infuses southern Chadian rhythms and other Sudanese and French influences.

Sport

The most popular sport in the republic of chad is football. Another popular sport is basketball. In the past years basketball has become increasingly popular and the country more competitive, having qualified for the African Basketball championships in 2011. Another increasingly popular sport is judo, in which the country has competed at the Olympics. Other sporting codes in chad include rugby, athletics, boxing, martial arts, and sport fishing.
