Universities in Burundi for international students

 East Africa Star University is the new kid in the block when it comes to universities in Burundi. The university is located in Rugombo in the outskirts of Bujumbura. East Africa Star University is still a small university but is recognised as one of the higher educational facilities in Burundi.

In the heart of Ngozi, an attractive and dynamic province, the University of Ngozi is a private institution of higher education offering a rich and varied space for learning and research. The University of Ngozi was set up as part of a community and private project whose aim is to develop local communities and higher education in Burundi. Working for peace, the University of Ngozi promotes equal opportunities and inter-religious diversity . It responds to a real and concrete demand from the communities, is integrated into the liberal environment and promotes job-generating training by arousing the entrepreneurial spirit of students. In collaboration with its public and private partners, the teams of the University of Ngozi make every effort to contribute to the success of the students and their professional integration. 

Hope Africa University is an institution of Higher Education, established by the Free Methodist Church, on February 6th 2000 in Nairobi, Kenya. In December 2003, it relocated to Bujumbura, the capital city of Burundi and opened doors on February 2nd 2004. HAU Headquarters are actually located in Ngagara, Quartier 2, and No 173. It opened new branch, Mweya Campus at Gitega, the Center of Burundi, in February 2012. Hope Africa University is the largest and fastest growing private university in Burundi with an enrollment of 1,700 students.

Wisdom University of Africa is a new university in Burundi which was established in 2008. Since it is a fast up and coming university, it has some of the most diverse programs to choose from.

Lake Tanganyika University is a university located in the Capital of Burundi. The university is named after the majestic lake that is one of the lifelines of Burundi. Lake Tanganyika University was founded in the year 199 to meet up with the demand for higher education.

International Leadership University (ILU) – Burundi is a private Christian and non denominational training institution fully recognized by the government of Burundi. ILU is a ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ International. ILU-Burundi exists to educate men and women to provide leadership in Africa by spearheading spiritual, social and cultural transformation in Africa and beyond. Training programmes are available at Bachelor and Master levels, and they include the School of Leadership, the School of Business, the School of Governance, the School of Theology and Missiology.

The Integrated Polytechnic University (UPI) is a private university education establishment, recognized by the Burundian State. Its head office is established in Cibitoke in the province which bears the same name. It was set up by Asbl CEPROTA. UPI is organized into Faculties and Institutes. UPI is administered by a Board of Directors, a Rector, a University Council and a Management Committee.   

University of Burundi is the premier university in Burundi. Located in the capital Bujumbura, it has over 6 campuses spread across Bujumbura and the rest of the country.  Founded in 1964, you won't find a more established university in the country.

The University "NTARE RUGAMBA" is a University Institution governed by two ordinances, that of the Ministry of the Interior and that of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Ntare Rugamba University is committed to be the torchbearer in the promotion of higher education through the quality of research, learning, consultancy and services offered to the community by preparing university graduates ready to face and respond to the demands of development socio-economic status of Burundi, the sub-region and the entire global community. It aims at professional growth in a favorable environment that enhances cultural diversity and awakens our awareness of ethical challenges, gender issues, equity, competitiveness and social responsibility. 

The Ecole Normale Supérieure (ENS) is a public higher education institution. The motto is: “Know more to educate better ”. The Ecole Normale Supérieure has the following missions, among others:  

· Provide initial training for fundamental and post-basic teachers;

· Ensure the development and continuous training of teachers of basic and post-fundamental education;

· Promote the quality of basic and post-basic education through various educational initiatives;

· Develop research in line with innovations in education.
