As a student, especially an exchange student it is probably of not important to rent an apartment through a real estate agency as contracts are of a minimum of two years. But there are other options.

The first option is the housing program at your university. Many Burundian universities offer help to find a place to stay.

Housing ranges from placing you in a family, living in university apartments, or offering independent housing. If you decide independent living is what you want, you might consider looking around at your Burundian university’s notice boards as well as on notice boards close by universities.

Many rooms are advertised by word of mouth and students that already spend some time at the host university will know what is available and not. A good tip is to ask at your home university for students that will be finished their studies in Burundi for reliable information.

You have the choice of accommodation in Burundi as we understand how important is for you to feel comfortable.

You have the freedom to choose your accommodation in the country and know exactly how the accommodation will look like, the characteristics of your room, where it is located on a map, how far it is from the school, and you can even contact the host through our messaging system!

These accommodations here can be booked independently whether you are attending a language program or not.

Different types of accommodation

There are many different types of accommodation for students in Burundi. At RocApply we know that accommodation is an essential component of an enjoyable study abroad.

This is a good option for travelers and students who want freedom and independence. The apartments in Burundi - with fully equipped kitchens and bathrooms - are typically furnished according to the Burundian characteristics.

You will have more independence and the opportunity to cook your meals. Single or double rooms are usually offered in the same apartments. Cooking and chores are done by the students themselves.

The apartments are generally without much supervision and are self-catering, but they are close to local amenities like cafes, bars, restaurants, shops, and bus stops.

If you are looking for a more independent lifestyle during your study and meet and interact with other foreign students, student residences/house options are ideal.

A student residence can vary in size depending on location and availability too. These residences usually accommodate students of all ages and nationalities in a house-type location.

The student residences in Burundi usually offer shared kitchen facilities or cafeterias and allow you to practice your new language with fellow students even away from your classes. Normally there is a reception you can contact if you have any issues or questions.

If you would like to have a little more personal space where to stay, accommodation in a hotel could be the best choice for you. But this option is only suitable for short-time stays between 1 and 4 weeks.

You could choose from various options, however, all rooms have their bathroom. For hotel bookings, please note that double rooms may only be booked by two scholars traveling together.
