Burkina Faso is a place of diverse cultures and ethnicities. The unique ethnic mix brings out the beauty of Burkina Faso. French influences are prevalent in Burkina Faso but the locals still preserve their social and cultural idiosyncrasies.

Religion

Burkina Faso is also a predominantly Muslim country with Islam taking up about 60.55 of the religious population. Christianity takes up 23.2% and traditional beliefs take up about 15.3%, while the non-religious population is around 1.0%.

Food and cuisine

Typical of West African cuisine, Burkina Faso's cuisine is based on ingredients like sorghum, millet, rice, maize, peanuts, potatoes, beans, yams, okra, chicken, chicken eggs, and fresh fish. 

Babenda- is a stew made out of fish, cabbage, beans, and spinach.

Riz gras- is rice cooked with meat, tomatoes, and onions.

Banji or Palm Wine- is fermented palm sap; and Zoom-Kom is a Burkinabe beverage enjoyed with meals or after meals.

Zoom-Kom is a milky whitish drink best served cold.

Dolo-is drink made from fermented millet.

Poletbicyclete-is grilled chicken dish served with potatoes and carrots.

Fufu- is a staple food in West African countries and is made out of ground cassava and plantain flour. It is eaten with soups and using the hands.

 Clothing.

When traveling to Burkina Faso, always make sure you dress modestly. Women are always expected to dress modestly since this is a Muslim country. Within the urban areas, however, it is not strict but the dressing should be kept appropriate

Music

Music in Burkina Faso is quite diverse and differs from ethnic group to ethnic group. Traditional music is still prevalent though Burkinabe societies. Music genres include Mossi based music fused with some Afro-Cuban beats and international western genres.

Incorporated genres include rap, techno, zouk, zouglur from cote d'Ivoire, and salsa. There are several traditional groups in Burkina Faso including percussion ensembles and balafon groups who entertain at state functions and social functions.

Sport

Sport in Burkina Faso is diverse and includes football, basketball, cycling, rugby, handball, tennis, and boxing. Football is the most popular sport in Burkina Faso. The national team is known as the Stallions and is one of the powerhouses of African football in recent years. They have had good shows at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The nation is currently ranked 53rd in the FIFA World Rankings. Burkina Faso hosted the Africa Cup of Nations in 1998. Basketball is another sport which is popular for both men and women. The national team had its most successful year in 2013 when it qualified for the AfroBasket, which is the continent's prime basketball event.
