Flights to Bhutan



Two main flight options are available in Bhutan. One is the national airline and flagship carrier and the other is a private airline. Druk Air is the main airline and Bhutan Airlines is the country’s first private airline.

Airports in BHUTAN

There are 4 airports in Bhutan. These include:

Paro International Airport

It is the only international airport of the four airports in Bhutan. It is 6 km from Paro in a deep valley on the bank of the river Paro Chhu. it is considered one of the world's most challenging airports and very few pilots are certified to land at the airport. Flights to and from Paro are only allowed in daylight hours from sunrise to sunset. The airport was the only airport in Bhutan until 2011.

Buddha Air became the first international airline to operate chartered flights to Paro in August 2010. Bhutan's first private airline, Tashi Air, was started in December 2011. In 2012, approximately 181 659 passengers used the airport. As of 2018, about 6 761 flights were handled by the airport with 397 599 passengers using the airport.

Gelephu Airport

Gelephu Airport- is situated in Samtenling, Gewog, near a town named Gelephu in the Sarpang district in Bhutan. The airport was constructed in 2008 as an international airport but stopped regular operations due to financial and logistical reasons, and finally started operating regularly in 2017. The airport serves Druk Air, which flies to and from Paro and Jakar.

Bathpalathang Airport

It is a domestic airport in Jakar, Bumthang District which opened on 17 December 2011 with flights to Paro. The airport suspended operations in July 2012 due to runway damage but has since reopened to limited service. It serves Druk airlines.

Yongphulla Airport

It is a domestic airport in Bhutan, located near the town of Trashigang. It has one runway with an Asphalt surface and serves Druck Air flights.
