Azerbaijan State Economic University was founded in the year 1930 as a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban environment of Absheron in the metropolis of Baku. The university also has branch campuses in Zagatala and Derbent in Russia.
UNEC as it is informally known is officially recognized by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan (Ministry of Education of Azerbaijan) as a large co-educational Azerbaijani higher education institution. The training of economic personnel with higher education in our country began in the 20s of the last century.
Thus, the polytechnic institute, originally created by the Azerbaijan Revolutionary Committee, had one of 5 faculties as an economic one. And in 1922, an economic department was opened at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the Azerbaijan State University, and this department trained economic personnel until 1930.
Based on the decision of the Council of People's Commissars of the Azerbaijan SSR, the division of the then Azerbaijan State University into separate institutions and the establishment of the Azerbaijan Trade and Cooperative Institute based on the economic department of the Azerbaijan SSR established the foundation of today's Azerbaijan State University.
Based on the Azerbaijan Trade and Cooperative Institute, the Azerbaijan Socio-Economic Institute was created, which, having a strong potential, united such small institutions as the Institute of Socialist Accounting, the Institute of Soviet Construction and Law, the Financial and Planning-Economic Institutes.
