Generally, the cost of living varies from individual budgets and lifestyles, even further differential in one city to another. The cost of living in Azerbaijan is relatively high in relation to many expat destinations and has increased exponentially in recent years, particularly in Baku.
The country is often considered a hardship destination and expats, therefore, are well-compensated to make the move.
Accommodation
In Azerbaijan accommodation varies according to one’s affordability. Apartments are categorized from one bedroomed up to three bedroomed and are classified based on their geographical location. Below is the price system of a number of apartments in Azerbaijan:

Public Transportation
There are various alternative transport systems that are adequately available for one to travel around Azerbaijan. Road and railway are the most popular transport network in Azerbaijan and are highly diversified and connects all parts of Azerbaijan.
While Baku is the largest, most populated and the capital city of Azerbaijan, besides being a location of most of the higher educational institutions, you can find different modes of transportation for traveling around.
BakiKart
In order to use Baku metro and buses, you need to purchase BakiKart from metro stations or bus stops which permanent usable card costs 2 AZN. The price for the one use of transportation will cost 0.30 AZN, which can be considered as an inexpensive mode of travel.
Baku Metro
Currently, the Baku metro system has 25 stations and 3 lines.
Buses
Buses are usually the most convenient mode of travel around Baku. Bus schedules and routes are generally available at bus stops. If you want to travel within Baku you can use in-city buses, which are provided by the BakuBus. Further information is available online.
Although for traveling to the regions of Azerbaijan and cities of the neighboring countries including Russia, Georgia, Turkey, and Iran you have to use all-inclusive, modern buses at the Baku International Bus Terminal.
Taxi services
Taxis can be considered a relatively expensive way to get around Baku. There are a number of different taxi companies in Azerbaijan which can be booked over the telephone or through particular applications.

Entertainment
There is a wide range of exciting activities that students can engage in while studying in Azerbaijan, as it is known as one of the most vibrant countries when it comes to fun and relaxation. The fun, games, and activities are not too harsh on the pocket as most activities are reasonably affordable.
Opera & Ballet Theatre
Azerbaijan is one country that is rich in its history and cultural heritage and experiencing it can best be done through visiting the Opera and Ballet theatre. This 1910 theatre has a very distinctive twin-spired facade and a classically grand interior, though the place could do with some refreshing.
It produces a mixed bag of shows, some grandiose, other more mundane repertory performances but most are easy enough to follow without speaking the show's language.
Ultimate Gobustan & Mud Volcanoes Tour
While in Azerbaijan, find time to explore Gobustan museum, ancient petroglyphs, and mud volcanoes in a four-hour tour. Throughout your journey, you will be guided by a local and friendly English-speaking tour guide.
You will learn about the history of petroglyphs found in this area, get direct experience with the mud volcanoes. This educational tour ranges between 44 Euro and 55 Euro.
Games and Entertainment Centres
Visiting Games and Entertainment Centres is another way to actually have a good time, when you are free from your studies. In Azerbaijan, there are Game and Entertainment Centers that are a top priority for a number of students. These include the following: Gabala Shooting Range, Phobia VR, ETX Lazer Strike, and Laliga Game Centre. For those who prefer more intimate activities can find time to catch a movie at the local cinemas that are quite affordable for students.
Health Insurance
Medical insurance is mandatory in Azerbaijan, for foreign students as well as local citizens. All Azeris are covered by a national health insurance plan and are entitled to free medical care. Expats in Azerbaijan should ensure that they have private health insurance, which is typically arranged through their employer.
