Secondary education in Algeria is divided into one of two streams namely technical/vocational or general and specialized. the Baccalaureat is the national competitive school-leaving examination Secondary studies leading to the baccalauréat take three years and are offered at general, technical, and combined schools. the general secondary stream prepares students for further studies at institutions of higher education.
Students graduating from the technical or vocational stream can also further their education however, vocational training is usually focused on working in various industries. The Specialized professional training programs usually take one to four years. The secondary school generally takes three years.

Curriculum
First-year Students follow one of three core curriculums including languages and social studies, sciences (natural and physical), and technology (mathematics, physical sciences and technology). General education follows five main areas including hard sciences, natural and life sciences, liberal arts and literature, literature and foreign languages, and religious studies, to mention but a few. the technical or vocational stream focuses on electronics, electrotechnology, mechanics, public works and construction, chemistry, and accounting.
Students will sit for the Baccalauréat examinations at the end of the third year, which will determine their admission into higher education. Technical students will be awarded the Baccalaureat de Technicien while general stream students will be awarded the Baccalaureat de l’Enseignement Secondaire General.

Years 10 and 11- All students must take IGCSEs in four core subjects that include English, Mathematics, Arabic (Either as first or second language IGCSE), At least one Science subject. Students can choose four optional subjects from a list including Biology, Physical Education (IGCSE), Chemistry, Computer Science, Physics, Further Mathematics, Spanish, French, History, and Business Studies. all students will also take Physical Education and General Studies In addition to the examined subjects.
Years 12 and 13 (Sixth Form)- Most students at this stage will take 3 A-levels from a list including English, Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Studies, Arabic, French, Spanish, History, Physical Education, and Geography.
