Different study abroad programs will include different services as part of their overall course costs. Some study abroad programs in Afghanistan may include excursions, such as trips to the Deserts or to visit the Museums of Afghanistan. Other programs will cost less, but only include the bare bones of residence and food. As you shop around for study abroad programs in Afghanistan, be sure to compare detailed lists of what is included and what out-of pocket expenses you may incur.

Foreign students at the public universities are entitled to highly subsidized accommodation, usually in dormitories. Therefore, most students do not have the pressure of having to find a job during their study at university and can participate in the various extracurricular activities offered by the institutions. Sports, particularly football, are popular with male students, although less mainstream sports including ultimate frisbee are also offered. Students, especially in the capital, are politically active, with major opposition parties such as the Muslim Brotherhood having large student subscriptions.

There many activities to engage into here! Despite the Taliban bombing in 2001, the Buddhas of Bamiyan remains one of the most iconic cultural monuments to explore in Afghanistan. Though largely destroyed, they are still very much reflective of the region’s heritage and it’s kindred spirit. There are ongoing efforts to rebuild the figures, and the monk caves are still available. The lakes of Band-e Amir are also not to be missed, along with the stunning geological formations that surround them for exploration.
